DIY it Friday: Layered Fabric Bow

Hello! Sorry for my absence in blogland this week, I have been a busy bee! Anyway, for this week's DIY it Friday we will be making a layered fabric bow! I am using light cotton prints, but feel free to use any fabric you want!

For this project, you will need 3 coordinating fabrics, a rotary cutter, self-healing cutting mat, quilter's ruler, fabric stiffener, a needle and thread, and hair tie (optional).

First, cut your fabric into 3 pieces. The base of the bow (bottom fabric) should be cut to 4x5 in., the next piece at 3x4 in., and the band at 1x5 in.

Apply fabric stiffener (diluted with water) to the fabric (do not apply to band). I like to use a foam brush and a plastic container with a lid for this.

After about five minutes, layer your pieces of fabric so that they are centered. By not allowing it to fully dry, you will be able to shape your bow and keep it in that shape without glue.

Pin the band in place with the hair tie in between the two flaps. Next sew using a backstich, trim your fabric, and you're done!

10 Minute Craft Dash #20

Hello! Today I am sharing a card I made for the current 10 Minute Craft Dash over at Pretty Pink Posh. I loved the colors, but was struggling with a way to showcase them. From my first card, I saved the embossed background and used it on this card. Saving that piece definitely was a time saver!

Here is my card made in 8 minutes and 21 seconds:

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific); Chandler (Bazzill); Daffodil Delight (Stampin' Up)

Stamps: Blue Skies (Lawn Fawn); Thank You Words (Inkadinkado)

DIY it Friday: Stamp from embossing folder!

Hello! Today is the start of a new series... DIY it Friday! This series will include any DIY project from stamps to T-Shirts to organizing ideas. Today, though, we will be creating a stamp from an embossing folder!

First things first: cut a piece of adhesive-backed fun foam (mine was left over from early crafting days, but you could easily find some at a craft store) and a piece of chipboard (mine was from a Chips Ahoy box) slightly larger than a standard size card (or whatever size you make).

It doesn't have to be perfectly straight. Next, put the chipboard in the embossing folder of your choice, here I am using the Geometric Rings Embossing Folder from Cuttlebug and put it in your diecutting machine (I used the Big Shot) following this sandwich from bottom up:

Multipurpose Cutting Pad w/ no tabs
Cutting Pad
Embossing Folder
Cutting Pad

Now you might be asking why I embossed the chipboard and not the foam. Well, when I embossed the foam, it did not leave a deep enough impression to work well.

After embossing, peel the backer off the foam and adhere to the back of the chipboard.

If needed, trim excess foam and you're done!

Below is the finished product. It is not meant to be perfect and will come out distressed. For cleanup, just pat it with a baby wipe immediately after stamping. If you rub, you could pill the chipboard.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Summer Fruits

Hello! Today I have created a card for Simon Says Stamp Challenge's Summer Fruits Challenge. When I saw the theme, I instantly thought of Lawn Fawn's Summertime Charm stamp set and chose Strawberries as my summer fruit. Although I used a retired color, Cameo Coral, to color the strawberry, you could easily use Strawberry Slush instead. Also, if you are interested in how I made the background check back tomorrow as I will be posting a tutorial on how to do it as part of a new series, DIY it Friday!

Supplies

Paper:  Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific)
Patterned Paper: Portrait 12x12 (Crate Paper); Reunion 6x6 (My Mind's Eye)
Stamps: Summertime Charm (Lawn Fawn)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko); Frost White (Colorbox)
Dies: Classic Scalloped Circles Large (Spellbinders); Summertime Charm Lawn Cuts (Lawn Fawn)

Runway Inspired Challenge #38

Hello! Today I have created a card for Runway Inspired Challenge's Challenge #38: Burberry Prosum Resort. I had been following RIC for awhile but have never  actually made a card for a challenge until now! We were given this image to work with:

Here is what I created:

I was inspired by the colors and the pattern on the shirt, but made the pink a little bolder. To create the embossing, instead of using the sandwich 1Tab+Cutting Pad+Embossing Folder+Cutting Pad, I flipped it to no tabs and then followed the rest of the sandwich above to create a more subtle impression.

Supplies

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific); Chandler (Bazzill)
Patterned Paper: Reunion 6x6 (My Mind's Eye)
Stamps: Thank You Words (Inkadinkado)
Ink: Chestnut Roan (Colorbox)
Embossing Folders: Geometric Rings (Cuttlebug)
Embellishments: Portrait Collection Kit (Crate Paper)

Lawnscaping Challenge #60

Hello! Today I am sharing a card I made for Lawnscaping Challenge's Challenge #60. The challenge tells us to use dimension. When I saw the theme, my head was swimming with ideas!

Here is the card I created:

I incorporated dimension by adding pop dots, layers, and curling the scalloped edges. To make the edges, I cut 5 1x2 in. squares of patterned paper and used a circle punch on the edges. For the hot air balloon, I stamped the balloon in white ink on the patterned paper and black on the white. I then paper-pieced and handcut it out (although I do own the dies, I didn't want to use them as they leave a white edge and I was using white ink).

Supplies

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific)
Patterned Paper: Portrait 12x12 (Crate Paper)
Stamps: Blue Skies (Lawn Fawn); Thank You Words (Inkadinkado)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko); Frost White, Chestnut Roan (Colorbox)
Punches: Circle (Stampin' Up)
Markers: Creamy Caramel (Stampin' Up)
Other: Retro Lawn Cord (Lawn Fawn); Corner Rounder (EK Success)

Simon Says Stamp Challenge Transport and Moxie Fab World: The Mixy-Matchy Style Challenge

Hello! Today I am back with a card for Simon Says Stamp Challenge's Transport Challenge and Moxie Fab World's The Mixy-Matchy Style Challenge. For the Simon Says Stamp Challenge, I chose to paper piece a hot air balloon. For the Moxie Fab World Challenge, I decided to combine stripes and polka dots. To paper piece the hot air balloon. I stamped the balloon on patterned paper from the My Mind's Eye Reunion 6x6 pad and on white cardstock. Then, I colored the basket on the white piece and diecut both pieces of paper. After diecuting the polka dots, I went around the edge with a white gel pen and cut off the basket. Finally, I adhered that piece to the white piece.

10 Minute Craft Dash #19

Hello! For this week's 10 Minute Craft Dash, the colors instantly had me thinking nautical. But then I saw this card by Loll Thompson and switched to rainbow.

CD_19

Here is my card with a total of 8 minutes and 20 seconds:

Sorry for the bad photo... the vellum was really hard to photograph. To make the rainbow, I first covered a piece of white cardstock with Provo Craft's Terrifically Tacky Tape but did not pull the liner off. Then, I grabbed two of Lawn Fawn's Circle Stackables dies (I skipped a size in between the two) and hung them off the edge of the cardstock. After I diecut that, I cut out two clouds (I flipped one). I then peeled the liner off the rainbow and begun adhering the twine. All that took 4 minutes and 46 seconds!

Supplies

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific)
Patterned Paper: Dear Lizzy Neopolitan 12x12 (American Crafts)
Stamps: Partly Cloudy (Lawn Fawn)
Dies: Circle Stackables, Blue Skies Lawn Cuts (Lawn Fawn)
Twine: Lemon Lawn Trimmings, Lime Lawn Trimmings, Peppermint Lawn Trimmings (Lawn Fawn)

FUSION Hypothesis #10

Hello! Today I am making a card for FUSION's Hypothesis #10! When I saw the sketch, my head was swimming with ideas, but the final product wasn't one :)

I decided to use just the sketch this week (I flipped it) and came up with this:

Here is a close-up:

I had to do a little stamp surgery for the second part of the sentiment because it orginally read "wishing happy birthday to you". I then stamped the "beyond measure".

Supplies

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific)
Stamps: Numbers (7 Gypsies and Hampton Art); Check This Out (Lawn Fawn)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko); Chestnut Roan (Colorbox)

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Masculine/Father's Day

Hello! I decided to participate in Simon Says Stamp Challenge's Masculine/Father's Day Challenge today. I don't normally make masculine cards, but after seeing all the inspiration from the design team, I decided to try it!

Although you don't have to use Tim Holtz products, I did. I used Antique Linen Distress Ink in two different ways. For the first, I put ink directly onto an acrylic block and then put on the paper. For the second, I applied the ink directly to the paper.

Supplies

Paper: Kraft (Recollections); White (Georgia-Pacific)
Stamps: Say Cheese (Lawn Fawn); Numbers (7 Gypsies and Hampton Art); Teeny Tiny Wishes (Stampin' Up); Polka Dots (Inkadinkado)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko); Antique Linen (Tim Holtz)
Punches: Decorative Label (Stampin' Up)

Here is my take on the challenge:

And since you can't really read it:

I'll let you in on a little secret: the book page is in the 12x12 paper, but it is also the backing for the chipboard stickers. I used the backing here. Can you tell? I didn't think so!
